TAG Global Events - Epson’s World Cup

Epson, global technology leader in the printing and visual communications market, is the Official Office Equipment Partner of Manchester United and May this year saw the end of a year’s global activation campaign, utilising this sponsorship, to create an immersive customer brand experience culminating in the opportunity to play on the pitch at Old Trafford.  From Epson’s global customer base, over 150 players from 15 different countries, with teams from North America, South America, Asia and Europe, qualified for this amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It was crucial the sales incentive winners enjoyed a seamless, ‘money can’t buy experience’ so Epson partnered with The Appointment Group to deliver the Epson World Cup. The three day football–led programme, based at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate, was hosted by television’s Georgie Thompson and United’s match compere Alan Keegan, including a welcome ceremony and live match draw with the team’s Manager, Louis van Gaal and Assistant Manager, Ryan Giggs.

Day two started with team talks led by Manchester United Soccer School coaches using Epson’s ultra-short-throw projectors before group matches at United’s Aon Training Complex, where teams had the assistance of MUFC Legends Dwight Yorke, Quinton Fortune, Denis Irwin and Bryan Robson.

The final day saw each team walk from United’s home and away changing rooms, through the Players’ Tunnel with the Champions League anthem playing to enjoy their moment of fame at the Theatre of Dreams. Players’ names were displayed on the hoarding around the pitch and the hotly contested final resulted in a narrow victory for Germany. The gala dinner, hosted at Manchester United, included several awards announced on VT by United’s first team players, with each winner receiving a signed Manchester United shirt. Throughout the dinner, photos from the weekend were shown on the big screen, raising cheers from all guests, with a highlights film showing the key moments from the whole weekend, creating a memorable and lasting impression for all guests.

Feedback from this unique event included 95% of players recording the whole experience as excellent with comments including “Unbelievable atmosphere! Wonderfully executed! This is a brilliant idea!” “It was overwhelming” and “Awesome, fantastic, the best weekend”.
