The What  

As a Supplier Relations Specialist you will have a diverse and varied role. Here are just some of the things you’ll be getting involved with:  

  • Supplier Programs and Relationships:
    • Oversee TAG APAC’s supplier programs and relationships
    • Provide high levels of service internally and externally
    • Consult with divisional heads to develop and implement preferred supplier programs and policies
  • RFP Process Management:
    • Manage the Request for Pricing (RFP) process, including distribution and loading of supplier rate updates
    • Deal with queries related to vendors and RFPs, providing solutions and liaising with staff and suppliers
  • Value-Added Benefits:
    • Assist in increasing value-added benefits for TAG clients (e.g., upgrades)
  • Data Management:
    • Collect and store hotel information on relevant database systems
    • Ensure data accuracy and update relevant files as needed
  • Relationship Building:
    • Develop and maintain working relationships with hoteliers and other suppliers
    • Attend industry events to enhance TAG’s profile in the hotel industry
  • Staff Training and Development:
    • Coordinate staff attendance at supplier training sessions and industry events
    • Encourage attendance at in-house training, presentations, FAM trips, and supplier functions
  • Operational Coordination:
    • Ensure smooth operation of back-office systems related to suppliers
    • Liaise with other departments, especially IT and Global Services, for effective database use and client benefits
  • Legal Compliance:
    • Operate in accordance with local bribery legislation and company policies
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Contribute to other supplier relations activities as needed
    • Manage delivery of TAG/Sound Travel packages for key events in Australia
  • Hotel and Supplier Management (Additional Details):
    • Build relationships with key suppliers and hotel partners
    • Manage changes and accommodation-related issues
    • Monitor commitments, report regularly to hotels, and manage room allocations
    • Provide customer service, adhere to service level agreements, and consider yield and inventory management
    • Regularly report on delivery, sales, and risk analysis
  • Financial Responsibilities:
    • Compile and deliver rooming lists to hotel partners
    • Work with the Finance team to ensure accurate and timely processing of payments
    • Negotiate rates and terms with key suppliers and hotel partners
  • System Management:
    • Set up and manage allocations and contracts for suppliers and vendors
    • Create and maintain supplier profiles, load inventory, and update supplier details in the system

As a Supplier Relations Specialist there are several credentials and attributes which would be advantageous, but a determined attitude and willingness to learn, are equally important. 

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a procurement or negotiation-focused role, or within the travel industry and/or hotel, supplier relations role 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of supplier contracts, pricing, RFPs, commissions, mark-ups
  • Knowledgeable about Australian and NZ hotels, specifically destinations close to major venues
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Intermediate project management skills
  • Intermediate/advanced customer service skills
  • Intermediate/advanced change and time management skills
  • Intermediate knowledge & understanding of negotiated contracts / pricing and RFP processes
  • Knowledge of Australian hotels, specifically destinations close to major venues
  • Passionate about events and travel

The Where and When 

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) based in our Sydney office. Since March 2020, we have operated a flexible, hybrid approach to working and will continue to do this moving forward. We will work with you to find the best mix of office and home working that suits your life and the needs of the team.  

You will report into the Commercial Director, who is based in Sydney. There are other regional teams based in Singapore, UK and the US that you may work closely with, too.
