Why the Maldives Should Be Your Next Trip

Our very own Andrea Wilkes, TAG's Private Travel Manager, embarked on a unique and relaxing trip to the Maldives. Andrea affirms this was “the most AMAZING trip I have ever been on - and I have been on a few in my 26-year career in the travel industry. Now, having been to the Maldives, I would say it’s an absolute must for everyone to visit at least once in their lifetime.”

Considering Andrea’s amazing experience, we have asked her 4 questions that will come handy if you are thinking about visiting this amazing Indian Ocean island.

What are the top 3 highlights of your trip to the Maldives?

The whole trip was an unforgettable experience, but if I had to choose 3 favourite things I would say: the hotel I stayed in; experiencing and observing the wonderful sea life in their natural habitat and getting on a seaplane!

I had the privilege of staying at the new Baglioni Resort and the long standing Kanuhura - where I was able to stay in a water villa for the first time; a life-changing experience. There’s nothing like waking up to the sound of the waves and the view of the sunrise illuminating the turquoise water.

Apart from this, being able to go on sea tours and closely see unique sea life, such as turtles, sharks, dolphins and many other exotic animals in their natural habitat, was a priceless opportunity. At last, being able to get on a seaplane was one of the most thrilling and exciting experiences - the views were incomparable… like a dream come true!

What are the favourite features of the hotels you visited during your stay?

I stayed in 2 different hotels during my trip:

  • The Baglioni, which was stunning, smooth and sophisticated. My 2 favourite features from this hotel would be the Teppanyanki at Umani Restaurant, with amazing food and an outstanding customer service, and the spa services. Getting a full-body massage in a luxurious spa as you listen to the waves with your eyes closed is the pinnacle of relaxation;
  • The other hotel I visited was the Kanuhura, which was the literal definition of luxury at its finest. My favourite features from this hotel were their Mojito@ Tepee Station on the beach and the fact that they had bicycles available for guests to tour around the island.

When is the best time to visit the Maldives and why?

Based on my experience - and what I was told by the locals - November to April is be the best time to go, as in this time of year you can expect dry, sunny days and plenty of blue skies.

What do you think are the top 3 things not-to-miss in the Maldives, one of the most desired destinations in the world?

Anyone going to the Maldives shouldn’t miss the unique opportunity to explore the amazing sea life through snorkelling, going for local sunset cruises to appreciate the view, or even have an exclusive picnic lunch on a “Private Island”. Each of these experiences are magical and will take your trip to a whole other level.
