EU Airports Told to Restore 100ml Hand Luggage Rule

Starting 1 September, European airports have been informed that they will have to reinforce the 100ml rule on liquid containers being taken onboard aircraft. Some airports have been able to lift this longstanding rule on liquids in hand luggage, thanks to the installation of new Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage (EDSCB) scanners.

Delta to Expand Corporate Priority Benefits to Latam

"Beginning this month," Delta Air Lines will expand its Corporate Priority benefits package to joint-venture partner, Latam. It will be available to travellers at organisations with corporate sales agreements with the carrier. Corporate Priority benefits for corporate travellers include priority boarding, priority service recovery and downgrade prioritisation—in which corporate travellers take priority over non-business travellers of comparable status.

Birmingham Airport Introduces Check-in Service for Neurodivergent Travellers

Birmingham Airport has introduced a new service and check-in facility to make the airport journey "as stress-free and calm as possible" for travellers with non-visible disabilities. The new check-in system includes an onsite Assisted Travel desk, dedicated security search area and staff trained to assist travellers with neurodiverse and hidden needs, according to the airport. 

The service will complement an existing Sunflower lanyards programme, which helps airport staff identify passengers with hidden disabilities who may need additional support.

Schiphol Launches Trial of Hydrogen Power Unit


Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is testing a new hydrogen-based facility to power aircraft on the ground in another initiative aimed at reducing emissions from its airfield operations. The airport said that the hydrogen-powered ground power unit (GPU) would be used to create electricity for lighting and power in the cockpit of KLM Cityhopper aircraft on the airfield's apron.


 

JetBlue Signs SAF Supply Deal at JFK Airport


JetBlue signed an agreement for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at New York's JFK airport. The airline and World Fuel Services have announced the deal with Valero Marketing and Supply Company, which will see JetBlue take delivery of a minimum of one million gallons of neat SAF as part of an initial 12-month agreement. Deliveries could start as early as the final quarter of 2024.
