Air France Opens Lounge at LAX

Air France has opened a new lounge with the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport. The 1,100 square-metre facility—which also serves eligible KLM and SkyTeam partner customers—is open daily between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., and can accommodate up to 172 guests. Features include a dining area "reminiscent of the style of Parisian brasseries," a bar, shower cubicles and furniture by French designers such as Patrick Jouin, Pierre Paulin and Charlotte Perriand. 

Aer Lingus Cancels Flights Ahead of Industrial Action

Aer Lingus has cancelled more than 200 flights later this week due to impending industrial action by pilots' union, IALPA. 

IALPA plans to impose a strict "work to rule" policy from 26 June for pilots working for Aer Lingus, which means they will not work overtime and reject all requests from the airline to change their rosters. 


American Airlines Flight Attendants Move Closer to Strike as Alaska Airlines Reaches Deal

Alaska Airlines' flight attendants reached a preliminary deal with the airline for a new contract on Friday, while cabin crew at American Airlines inches closer to a summertime strike. On Friday, The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA Union—which covers the work group at Alaska—said that the bargaining group had reached a tentative agreement with the airline under federal mediation. 

Singapore Airlines Launches Flights From London Gatwick

Singapore Airlines has launched long-awaited flights from London Gatwick to Singapore—its second route from the UK capital. The carrier is now flying five times per week between Gatwick and Singapore, which is in addition to its existing services from London Heathrow and Manchester airports. 

Singapore operated the first flight on the new route on 22 June. Services will depart from Gatwick on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
 


First of BA's 787-8 Dreamliners Now Fitted With Club Suite

British Airways has retrofitted the first of 12 Boeing 787-8 aircraft with its Club Suite business class product.

Aircraft registration G-ZBJA now features 31 Club Suites in a 1-2-1 layout (the odd numbers come from the fact that row 5 has just one seat due to the position of the galley and toilets), as well as 37 World Traveller Plus 9 (premium economy) seats, and 136 World Traveller (economy) seats. 


Delta Announces Orlando-Heathrow Route

Delta is set to launch flights between Orlando International Airport and Heathrow later this year. The seasonal service will operate four times weekly between 28 October, 2024 and 30 March, 2025. This will be the carrier's second nonstop European route from Orlando, joining Amsterdam which launched in 2018.

Flights will depart Orlando on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:35 p.m., arriving into Heathrow at 11:40 a.m. the following day. The return leg will leave London at 4:00 p.m. and arrive back into Orlando at 8:20 p.m.

Lufthansa to Raise Fares by up to €72 as Environmental Costs Increase


Lufthansa will add an environmental charge of up to €72 ($77 USD) to its fares—joining at least one European rival in doing so as the industry battles to cover the cost of new EU rules on reducing emissions. Airlines have warned for years that regulations requiring them to use more expensive sustainable jet fuel could drive up costs.

Turkey's flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, were recognised at the World Finance Sustainability Awards 2024, as the World's Most Sustainable (Flag Carrier) Airline.
