Amsterdam Schiphol Raising Airport Charges by Nearly 15%Amsterdam Schiphol has announced plans to raise its airport charges for 2024 by more than previously expected, “due to lost income in 2022." Charges will increase by 14.8% next year, rather than the previously expected 12%. The airport said that the move was a result of lost revenue during the pandemic, with remaining travel restrictions at the start of 2022 leading to fewer flights. |

Singapore Airlines Sets 5% Sustainable Fuel Target by 2030Singapore Airlines and its Scoot subsidiary have set the goal of using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for 5 per cent of its total fuel requirements by 2030. Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, said, “This is an important milestone in the SIA Group’s sustainability journey. The greater use of sustainable fuels will be a key lever in our decarbonisation strategy, which includes our continued investment in new generation aircraft and greater operational efficiencies. However, we cannot do this alone. Deeper collaboration with partners and stakeholders, both in Singapore and around the world, is needed for all of us to meet our collective sustainability targets." |
Virgin Atlantic Wins UK Permit for 100% Sustainable Fuel Transatlantic FlightVirgin Atlantic will fly from London to New York on 28 November using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), after Britain gave it permission—paving the way for a world first as airlines step up efforts to decarbonise travel. Airlines are pinning their hopes on SAF, which uses waste such as cooking oils to reduce emissions by up to 70% compared to fossil fuels, to decarbonise flying before new electric and hydrogen-powered options are expected in the coming decades. |
Air France-KLM UPS Commitment to SAF Producer DG FuelsAir France-KLM has invested $4.7 million in DG Fuels, a US-producer of sustainable aviation fuel, and agreed to purchase up to an additional 25 million gallons (75,000 tons) of SAF annually over a multi-year period beginning in 2029. The SAF commitment is in addition to the 600,000 tons of SAF that Air France-KLM agreed to buy in October 2022 for delivery between 2027 and 2036. |
