10 Minutes with Naz Hussain - Head of Accounting

What is your role at The Appointment Group (TAG)?

My official title is Head of Accounting for the TAG US offices, but I have fulfilled a number of roles within TAG over the years that include office junior, credit controller and manager of accounts. I have had the opportunity to work my way up. This is very beneficial in my current position, as I have a very good understanding of all the administrative and financial procedures at TAG.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

Being part of a “Back Office” department means that we are in close contact with all of our company’s divisions (whether Touring, Corporate, or Events) all over the globe. This means I am constantly in contact with employees internally to resolve or prevent issues, and I am also in contact with various suppliers and clients. It’s this social aspect, however challenging it may be, that I enjoy the most!

What does your typical work day consist of?

As Head of Accounting, my day to day responsibilities consist of managing all aspects of the US finance operation. The team and I need to ensure that payments from hotels and clients are in order and correct. We, as a team, work towards guaranteeing a healthy financial position for The Appointment Group.

What do you think makes TAG different or unique from other Travel & Event Management Companies (TMC)?

In my opinion The Appointment Group stands out compared to other TMC because of the people that work here. We are all driven and take pride in what we do… but we never say no to a good laugh! The passion of our owners also has a great deal to do with the success of our company today. The ability to quickly adapt has given us the chance to thrive during a period where things have been really difficult for TMC. I would like to think our success is the result of hard work and being good at what we do.

What has been your best memory so far whilst working for TAG?

There are so many! Where do I start? Most of these memories revolve around the times spent with my co-workers and bosses outside of the office. We always have such a good time at events and create memories that last a lifetime. From being dressed up as Cher and performing in front of the company at one of the staff conferences, to enjoying a fun summer party at Maurice Veronique’s (TAG CEO and co-founder) lovely Malibu house. There are so many more memorable moments and I’m sure they will stay with me for years to come!

What would be your perfect holiday/vacation?

I think it would have to be a trip to Brazil during the World Cup.  I deeply regret not booking the flights and going over there when I had the chance to do so! This being said, with a World Cup every four years I might have the opportunity to go in the future.

What is your favourite city and hotel in the world?

My favourite city in Europe has to be my home city. Nothing beats London!  Since I have been in the US, I would say I love San Francisco. That would be my favourite city in America.

What is the one thing you cannot live without?

My iPhone. I am glued to it.
