TAG Account Managers Embark on 15-Month Apprenticeship Journey

Focusing on Career Progression to Continue Delivering Unrivalled Travel Management Services

At TAG, we take pride investing in our talent across the globe. Committing to the ongoing education of our existing staff is essential to support them in their own career progression and ensures TAG continues to deliver the outstanding service that our clients deserve.

Recently, two TAG UK Account Managers, Jay Abbott and Alex Thompson, embarked on TAG's unique apprenticeship offering to ultimately support their professional growth. The 15-month apprenticeship, Data Technician - Level 3, is a professional qualification provided in partnership with Grant Thornton, BPP Education Group and The Business Travel Association (BTA).

Thrilled about the opportunity, Thompson said, “I’m excited to be in the first group of TAG apprentices since the pandemic and am really looking forward to improving on my data analytical skills and further professional development.”

Maximising this avenue for growth is also extremely important to the overall benefit for TAG clients. By beginning this undertaking, TAG staff can continue to service their clients without day-to-day interruption, while elevating their expertise simultaneously. "The apprenticeship levy is a fantastic way for TAG to upskill our UK staff during their working hours," TAG's Head of Learning & Development Danielle Myers expressed. “We are delighted to be able to invest into our team members’ career longevity, whilst keeping them motivated and engaged at work."

As Jay and Alex navigate through their programme, it's important to recognise those who helped make the venture possible. "Embarking on a new partnership with TAG, we at BPP are delighted to foster this exciting collaboration,” noted Helen Gibson, Director of Client Solutions at BPP School of Technology. “This marks a key milestone in our journey towards nurturing talent and building a skilled, future-ready workforce.”

Sue Ledgard, Grant Thornton’s Corporate Account Manager added, “Grant Thornton is absolutely delighted to be working with TAG on their venture into apprenticeships. TAG was looking at the most effective way to develop the skills of their workforce, and it is fantastic to see this finally coming to fruition.”

All three partners have demonstrated incredible efforts to highlight the value of apprenticeship programmes. Helen Turner, Members & Partnerships Manager at The BTA elaborated on the ongoing commitment to educate their members about apprenticeships and available funding. Turner explained, "In collaboration with our partner Grant Thornton, our aim is to highlight the significant benefits of staff learning and development. We're excited to see that our efforts have led TAG to offer the Data Technician Apprenticeship to two deserving staff members, providing a great opportunity for skill enhancement. We wish them the best of luck on this enriching journey!"

While Jay and Alex began the programme about a month ago, they are already seeing the long-lasting impact the apprenticeship will have on their careers with TAG.

“Taking part in an apprenticeship is a productive and effective way to develop my skills whilst carrying out my day-to-day role, I enjoy work-based learning and the chance to upskill," Jay noted. "I’m very grateful for the opportunity; it really shows the commitment TAG has to our team’s development and growth. It’s especially exciting to be one of the first apprentices here in recent times. I hope this will encourage a continuation to offer similar opportunities in the future.”

TAG hopes to continue to offer apprenticeship programmes to grow the skills of even more TAG staff. Myers concluded, "It’s really exciting to be giving back to our hardest workers. We are all proud of the commitment Jay and Alex have made to their own development, as well as honing skills TAG clients will continue to benefit from in the long term.”

On behalf of everyone at TAG, we would like to extend a huge congratulations to Jay and Alex on taking the next leap in their careers!
