Etihad Airways to increase Maldives frequency

Etihad Airways announced four additional weekly flights on the popular Abu Dhabi – Malé route, increasing frequency to the idyllic Maldives to 11 services a week between 1st July and 17th September 2017. The capacity increase will cater to high demand during the peak summer season.

Emirates to launch daily service to Newark via Athens

Emirates announced it will launch a new daily service from Dubai to Newark Liberty International Airport, via the Greek capital city of Athens, starting on March 12, 2017. The new route complements Emirates’ existing four daily flights between Dubai and New York’s JFK airport, by offering global travellers another convenient access point to the popular New York Metropolitan area.

Emirates A380 returns to Narita, Japan

Emirates will resume its flagship A380 service between Dubai and Narita from 26th March 2017. This follows the airline’s recent A380 deployment to Moscow and will take place after the upcoming launch of A380 services to Johannesburg.

Singapore Airlines to boost Australia, Europe, Southeast Asia and West Asia services

Singapore Airlines will be increasing flight frequency to points in Australia, Europe, Southeast Asia and West Asia in the Northern Summer operating season (26th March 2017 to 28th October 2017) to meet growing travel demand. In Australia, Melbourne will be served with 31 weekly flights, an increase from 28, with effect from 17th July 2017, while flight frequency to Brisbane will increase to 28 per week, from 24, starting on 22nd August 2017.

Virgin Australia announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter into a strategic cooperation agreement with Air Canada, increasing choice for travelers and improving the convenience of travel between Australia and Canada.

Qantas introduces Premium Lounge Entry

Qantas has announced it will introduce Premium Lounge Entry – a new airport departure experience for eligible Qantas customers departing from Brisbane Domestic Airport. Opening in early March 2017, Premium Lounge Entry will offer eligible customers a dedicated check-in area, bag drop, security screening and escalator with direct access to the new Qantas Lounge Precinct.

Construction of Changi Airport Terminal 4 completed

Changi Airport Group (CAG) announced the completion of the construction for its new passenger terminal building, Terminal 4 (T4). Marking the completion of the construction phase, the next stage of development will be focused on its interior fittings, as well as preparing it for operations.

Qantas to fly non-stop Perth to London

Qantas is set to add to its list of aviation firsts, with the national carrier confirming it will operate non-stop flights from Perth to London using the 787-9 Dreamliner. The 14,498 kilometre service will be the first regular passenger service to directly link Australia with Europe when it begins in March 2018.

Sydney - Severe thunderstorms alert

Please be advised that the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology has released the following warning: Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Armidale and Tamworth.

Qatar Airways adds routes to Canberra, Dublin and Las Vegas

Qatar Airways announced eight more destinations for 2017-18, in addition to seven previously announced new cities for a total of 15 new gateways. Joining the Qatar Airways’ route network, which spans more than 150 destinations on six continents around the world, are: Canberra, the airline’s fifth destination in Australia; Dublin, Ireland; Las Vegas, the airline’s 11th destination in the United States; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Santiago, Chile; Medan, Kualanamu International Airport, the airline’s third destination in Indonesia; and Tabuk and Yanbu, the 9th and 10th destinations in Saudi Arabia.
