Heathrow Celebrates Busiest Day Ever With 268,000 Passengers

Heathrow Airport celebrated its busiest day ever on 30 June. More than 268,000 customers passed through the airport, capping a month where Heathrow welcomed a total of 7.4 million passengers. Heathrow's rolling 12-month traffic numbers now sit at 81.9 million.

Auberge Resorts Collection to Manage Mayfair's Cambridge House Hotel

Auberge Resorts Collection has been appointed to manage the forthcoming Cambridge House hotel at 94 Piccadilly in London's Mayfair District. Cambridge House dates back to the mid-1700s and was formerly home to the In and Out Military Club between 1865 and 1999.

Reuben Brothers purchased the property in 2012 and it was originally set to be turned into a private family residence, but subsequent plans were unveiled for a 102-room hotel and private members' club, scheduled to open in late 2025.


Korean Air to Buy 50 Aircraft, Launch New Business Class

Korean Air has agreed to purchase 50 new Boeing aircraft. The order includes 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, 20 Boeing 787-10 aircraft and an option for 10 more 787-10s. According to Korean Air, the aircraft's, "capability of long-haul flights to regions such as North America and Europe are expected to play an important role after Korean Air's merger with Asiana Airlines." The United States is the lone remaining entity among 14 regulatory authorities needed to approve the merger.

EU's Entry-Exit System Delayed Yet Again

The EU's new Entry-Exit System (EES) has once again been delayed—and is now set to be introduced in November 2024, a month after the previously announced October rollout. EES is a biometric system for registering travellers from non-EU countries, including the UK, when they cross the EU's external border. It will apply to both short-stay visa holders and visa-exempt travellers. 

Virgin Atlantic Orders Airbus A330s to Complete Fleet Renewal

Virgin Atlantic has ordered seven Airbus 330-900s to complete the $17 billion transformation of the UK carrier's fleet. The new aircraft will be delivered from 2027, and by the following year Virgin Atlantic plans to operate a fleet of 45 aircraft, with an average age of just over six years. Currently, the carrier has a fleet of 44 aircraft. 

Qatar Airways Launches Upgraded Qsuite Business Class Seat

Qatar Airways has unveiled the latest upgraded version of its Qsuite business class seat. The Doha-based aircraft's new Qsuite New Gen seat was officially revealed at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK this week. 

New features include a redesigned Quad Suite for up to four passengers with a larger dining and social area, plus the new Companion Suite for two travellers in window aisles. Other developments include 4K OLED screens, as well as an increase space and privacy.
