Piccadilly Line to Close for Five Days Between Acton Town & Heathrow

Transport for London has outlined plans for a partial closure of the Piccadilly Line starting this weekend, affecting travel to and from Heathrow airport. The line will be closed between Hammersmith and Heathrow in the early hours of Saturday, 10 February, and then between Acton Town and Heathrow, from the start of normal service on Saturday, until the start of service on Thursday, 15 February.

Singapore Airlines' Heathrow T2 Lounge to Close 8 February for Refurbishment

Singapore Airlines has announced plans to refurbish its SilverKris Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 2. The £3.5 million project will include increasing seating space by 16%the lounge will take on elements of the carrier's recently refreshed facilities at Singapore Changi Airport.

British Airways to Align All Tier Point Collection Periods to Start in April

British Airways has announced plans to move the Tier Point collection period for all Executive Club members to the start of April. Currently, members have different collection periods depending on which month they joined the programme.

Google to Update Flight Emissions Calculations in its Travel Impact Model


Google will update its Travel Impact Model, a tool it created in 2022, to calculate flight emissions at the individual passenger level. The changes were announced by the International Council on Clean Transportation. They are intended to make the emissions model "more fully reflect the environmental impact of aviation and help people make more sustainable choices when planning air travel."

Sustainable tourism's mission is to lower the negative social and environmental impacts of travel and vacations. That was only a small part of the discussions at the IMPACT Sustainability Travel and Tourism conference in Victoria, British Columbia in January. The main discussions were about "reiterative hospitality," a refrain of social and economic systems.

EU Sets New Intermediate Target of 90% Emissions Reduction by 2040

Campaign group Transport & Environment welcomed the news, saying it gives airlines and other transport providers "the investment certainty that clean technology is here to stay," but warned the proposals were undermined by a series of shortcomings. 



 

Hertz to 'Pause' EV Purchases from Polestar

In April 2022, Hertz announced a deal with Polestar to purchase 65,000 electric vehicles over five years from the Sweden-based carmaker. Polestar agreed to let Hertz "pause" its purchase of the vehicles this year, provided the rental company not sell its current stock of Polestar vehicles "early or too cheaply."
