United States - REAL ID and Air Travel

Passed by Congress in 2005, the REAL ID Act established minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards and prohibits federal agencies, like TSA, from accepting licenses and identification cards for official purposes from states that do not meet these standards. Enforcement Dates as additional extensions may or may not be granted.

Air New Zealand explores translation technology

Air New Zealand is turning to technology to tackle the language barriers that often arise during travel. The airline is one of the first corporates globally to trial a customer service use case for Google’s wireless Bluetooth Pixel Buds headphones which enable live translation of 40 languages via Google’s Pixel handset.

Alaska Airlines launches new service from San Francisco to Kona, Hawaii

Alaska Airlines begins nonstop service between San Francisco International Airport and Kailua-Kona International Airport, the 31st new route launched by the carrier from California in 2017. The new service is part of the largest network expansion in Alaska Airlines' 85-year history and solidifies Alaska Air Group as the leading airline of nonstop flights from the West Coast to Hawaii.

United Airlines announces new routes connecting eight cities to hundreds of domestic and international destinations

United Airlines (UAL) announced it will begin new service between six of its domestic hubs and eight destinations in California, Ohio, North Dakota, South Dakota, Virginia and Wisconsin. The new flights, starting June 7th, offer customers hundreds of connection opportunities across United's world-class domestic and international route network.

Cathay Pacific to launch Washington DC service with the Airbus A350-1000

Cathay Pacific will connect Hong Kong with the capital of the United States of America for the first time in late 2018. The airline will commence a four-times-weekly service to Washington DC in September next year, which will complement its existing routes to the East Coast, including Boston and New York’s two main international airports – John F Kennedy and Newark Liberty.

Air Canada launches Montreal-Lima service

The arrival of flight AC1942 at Lima's Jorge Chávez International Airport marks the successful launch Air Canada's non-stop service between Montreal and Lima, Peru, Montreal's first year-round link to the southern hemisphere. The twice weekly flights will be operated by Air Canada Rouge with 282-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft featuring Premium Rouge and Economy class service.

Delta One service, amenities take flight in select long-haul domestic markets

Delta is launching its Delta One experience on key long-haul domestic routes, starting April 1st, 2018, with select flights between the following markets: Boston and Los Angeles New York-JFK and San Diego, Seattle New York-JFK and Las Vegas, starting May 1st, 2018 Delta One will also become the premium offering April 1st, 2018, on the following routes with one scheduled daily flight each: Atlanta and Honolulu Minneapolis and Honolulu Delta One will be offered during strategic flight times on select routes as the airline works to customize the service offering to align with times when customers are seeking the Delta One experience, which includes flat-bed seats, elevated amenities and a refined dining experience. First Class service may be available on alternate flights on the route.
